Count Von Arnim silver bowl, age?

Post by Silvermania »

Can anyone please assist with the identification of these German silver marks? Understand that the animal figure may be that of the C18th?

Do you have a pic of the entire bowl, perhaps with an image of the monogram of Count Von Arnim (does the bowl have that monogram?) ?

Hi Aguest,
yes there is a monogram on the bowl, a high 'queen' crown over A.P.H.

Hi,
The maker is Gebrüder Kühn - Schwäbisch Gmünd,founded 1860.
Crescent and crown Reichsmark was introduced in 1886.

Thank you very much AG2012, for sharing your knowledge.
We are told this silver bowl with the 'A.P.H.' monogram / crest belonged to Count Von Arnim, who died 1881, i.e. 5 years before the crescent and crown was introduced in 1886. Suppose it could have belonged to off spring rather than the Count himself, we're researching the family history for the 'A.P.H.' meaning.

Indeed, the crown has nine pearls, consistent with Graf (male), a historical title of the German nobility, usually translated as "count". Considered to be intermediate among noble ranks, equivalent to the British title of "earl".
The style looks Art Nouveau.
Unless there is reliable, direct provenance, it's impossible to identify the original owner and the meaning of name initials.

Yes, agree the style is reminiscent of that period.
