German Augsburg Silver

Post by klink »

Hello - this is my first post. Do need help with figuring out what this silver is. A 1983 appraisal lists it as "possible Augsburg", but I'm not sure it is Augsburg. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi Klink, for me it looks quite fishy, the Augsburg mark doesn't exist in Helmut Seling, Augsburger Gold- und Silberschmiede, the makers mark resembles a bit the mark of Theophil Glaubich (Master before 1551). He died in 1572. Perhaps your coffee pot is coming from Hanau or elsewhere, but its for sure not 16th century. regards wolfgang

Hi,
Pseudo marks for sure and decorative Tremolierstich.
Typical Historismus Silber, late 19th or early 20 th century.

Sorry, but I should have used these hallmarks, from one of the other pieces (the teapot) - this is better hallmark impression.
