Re: Tafuri silver spoon
Hi,
The spoon bears distinctive mark of Wilkens & Söhne, Bremen-Hemelingen
http://www.925-1000.dk/Fgerman_marks_a1884.html
They are still in business, many references online.
TAFURI was assigned Italian Registration No.: 11 SA
http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic ... uri#p97832
But I think there is ``1BO`` for Bologna.
It is well known Wilkens & Söhne had many retailers. Whether they retailed silver made elsewhere is unknown to me.
Best wishes

A brief history of the company Clementi.
I apologize for my Google English
Ditta Clementi 1B0
At the beginning of '900, the German silverware factory WILKENS of Bremen was very important at home.
He decided to open a plant to produce cutlery in Italy since it was their major export market
They looked for a place that was strategic as a railway junction and chose Casalecchio sul Reno, near Bologna.
In 1912 was inaugurated the Company “ Felsinea” in Via Fratelli Bandiera, 1 whose trademark on produced objects was the symbol of the press, which is still used.
The owner, Martin H. Wilkens ran the company until 1915. Dr. Giovanni Mantel was managing director and engineer Ulbrich from Bremen technical director.
Mr Michelangelo Clementi from Naples became commercial director.
With the outbreak of World War I, the German managers had to return home to enlist. The factory continued production, but changing owner, since during the period of WW1 it was forbidden for German citizens to have properties in Italy.
The company was then registered to Michelangelo Clementi, who, after the war, gave it back to the original owners. The name CLEMENTI was retained.
After the WW2 Dr. Giovanni Mantel took 50% of the property, so it remained until 1974/75.
In 1984 the company was bought by the company Buccellati.
