Identifying Chalice

Post by sekman »

Greetings,

Is anyone here familiar with the mark in this photo? Regrettably this is the only photo I have at the time, tomorrow I will be able to hopefully get some better photographs.

Many thanks for your help.

Hello,
The maker's mark belongs to Pierre Henry Favier, born in Meximieux, a municipality north-east of Lyon, on 11 July 1809. Worked with his brothers in Lyon before moving to Paris.
In 1846 Pierre-Henry took over the workshop of the silversmith Jean Baptiste Garnier in Paris at 9 place Dauphine. The location of his workshop changed several times : 44 quai des Orfèvres (1847), 8 rue Saint-Christophe (1858) and 25 quai des Orfèvres (1867).
Pierre Henry entered his mark, "two cruets and four stars", on August 12, 1846, n°de garantie 4742; n° de préfecture 4913.
After his death in 1870, Louis Marie Favier succeeded his father in the Paris company.
The Favier silversmiths were famous manufacturers of ecclesiastical silver works such as chalices, ciboria, monstrances, patens, cruets and plates.
Regards
