Need Help with weird hallmarks

Post by stefan1 »

Hello!

Thank you in advance for your time. The item i have here is a silver jardiniere. From my point of view its second empire (Around 1870-1900) and should be made in austria or germany. At least the family lived there. But i did not find any hallmarks. So i started to sarch in french and also english hallmarks. Checked danish, swedish and finnish. But i could not find any hallmark like this. The "U" is quite uniquein the way it looks like. The "1" is i guess the city. But i am not sure. The 5th hallmark sits on the bottom of the jardiniere. Its grapes in my opinion. But i could not find it anywhere. Augsburger grapes are differnt. I guess its the makers hallmark. But i am not sure.

Kind regards

Stefan

Hi Stefan, welcome to the forum.

For your "U" see import marks for London;
http://www.925-1000.com/importmarks.html
The date letter lower case l for 1906. See;
http://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Date ... -1915.html
Importer AG for: Arthur Graf, manufacturer's agent & importer", Goswell Road, London
See:
http://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Make ... AJ.html#AG
The bunch of grapes could be a German Hanau style pseudo mark or Dutch pseudo mark.
