French and Portuguese marks

Post by oel »

These marks are seen on a (incomplete) French silver tea, coffee, & chocolate set;

To my understanding made in France, export mark for silver with the core image the head of Mercury with the number 1 for silver minimum 950/000, used 1879-2000. The maker’s mark in a French lozenge: H)Spoon(L
http://www2.culture.gouv.fr/public/mist ... 4%24%2534P
I search; initales HL with symboles cuillère (spoon)
With no results so I guess the maker's mark is prior 1878?
I am afraid I need some help, thanks.

And we have the sitting boar for Portugal, the frame shape for Lisbon. The number 1 for minimum 916/000 used 1887-1938. The sphinx or lying lion above L , I assume is the Lisbon retailer’s mark.
All response is welcome. Thanks.

P.S.
Lapeyre has appeared before in this forum. A search will yield some more info about the French maker.

Hi JayT,

It goes without saying I have to study the Forum French Maker's Mark Menu. For me it seems the French Ministry of Culture website and entering the initials HL does not work.
Thank you very much for the information and guiding me in the right direction.

Best wishes,

Peter.

You’re welcome Peter.
Yes, the French Ministry of Culture website isn’t very user-friendly, but the maker is there. Perhaps you didn’t enter the initials in uppercase, with a period after each letter?

Indeed with period (full point) it works.

Cheers JayT!
