Orla Vagn Mogensen hallmark mistaken for Fir. Munksgaard

Post by cindrelley »

I purchased a beautiful set of silver plated flatware that was listed as made by Fir. Munksgaard of Denmark. After researching him for other items I only see items of jewelry made by him in a brief career. I was able to validate my hallmarks and set by a dealer in Denmark as being the creation of Orla Vagn Mogensen who worked in silverplate as well as sterling. The set is marked with two hallmarks for Mogensen. The one imprinted on the knife blade is overlapping letters of O-V-M with the Danish crown and the rest of the flatware is marked with an M inside of an O. Munksgaard apparently uses a similar M in a circle. My flatware pattern is (Gitte) and has hallmarks. I have seen both of these hallmarks on sterling sets by Mogensen in the Champagne patter.
