American Spoon Maker (?) S R with pseudo marks

Post by MG »

I have the following tea spoon with what seems like a pseudo lion passant mark and pseudo duty head
I am in England but the triangular shaped drop is not typical of an English spoon
Otherwise it is fairly typical of an early 19th century english spoon
There are two stamped initials 'S' and 'R' which are again unlike English makers marks which are normally within a cartouche
So I wonder - is it American ?
Thank you

Hi,

I've really no idea, but I would not be surprised to find it was of Canadian origin.

thats interesting
I just found a very similar mark for R Sharpley of Montreal, Canada
Although of course my spoon has the letters SR rather than RS.
Also the lion mark. duty head and 'R' font are different
However it does have a similar feel

thank you Trev
