18th-century "PR" mark (American?) on spoons

Post by Agman »

For years I've been puzzling over this handsome pair of 18th-century tablespoons marked "PR" twice in a rectangle. I'm pretty certain it's not that famous "PR," since I've never seen this particular mark attributed to Paul Revere. However, the style of the spoons with their upturned handles and crude rectangular drops, the double-struck initial marks, and the monogram (JVG) in foliate script would all seem to place them somewhere in an English colony -- whether in North America or elsewhere -- in the 1740-1780 range. Any suggestions?
