Thread pattern teaspoon maker help

Post by mk209 »

Found this misidentified American spoon, it’s marked with a star, lion and a ‘D’ in a small punch. There’s a few makers that have similar marks but any help would be great to identify maker and rough age.

Hi Matt,

There's a lot mixed feelings as to the origin of these marks, see:

They are likely wholesaler's marks, and the retailer would add his mark if he desired. The 'D' likely stands for Dollar, an indicator that it was made out of coin.

Thanks Trev, I initially thought this spoon was earlier than 1848 but then styles are not always a definite thing to go by.
