Zuni Ring SL Picto

Post by Aguest »

I did find a similar hallmark by SMITH LORENZO or maybe LORENZO SMITH in another post to our wonderful website, but when I tried to find the reference to this maker I was unable to find it. And only the middle part of the hallmark matched this ring, there were other parts of the hallmark that did not match this ring. So I don't know what is going on, but it does look like a stylized "SL" or maybe a Pictograph.

Here is the similar hallmark from .925-1000 and it is similar but not quite the same.

The hallmark on the reference piece is actually "Sam Lovato Santo-Domingo" and he has two slightly different hallmarks in the reference page, but still the hallmark on my ring is different because it does not have those two elements at the end.

Maybe it is an early piece by Sam Lovato? Or maybe another artist? But it does seem to be a stylized "S" and "L" so that is a clue.
