Cleaning old silver pieces

Post by jankay8 »

I have a ladle circa 1869. Tarnished with yellow as well as some black places. Are you supposed to leave it as is or clean it up?

Thanks

Use of silver is a pleasure - cleaning silver as well!

Hello

There are several, or different »point of view«:

It’s one of hundred, or maybe thousands of items of silver you’ve collected?

It’s a ladle for use at least once a week?

It’s a decorative ladle which serves as a highlight in your showcase?

Clean with care — e.g. our Danish contributor »Hose_dk« likes that silver gets back his main appearance: To could »shine«.

If you’ve only some, or a few pieces of silver, clean them, and use them often.

Please e.g. look here: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17225" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It lets you see, that cleaning silver is also a pleasure.

Kind regards silverport

Jankay8,

Those black spots may be corrosion, not tarnish. You could place a cotton ball soaked with ammonia on the spot and remove it after 10 minutes. The corrosion (if that's what it is) should be gone!
