A fire at the City Exchange, 547 Main St., Winnipeg, of which R. Brand is proprietor, on Jan. 16 destroyed and damaged jewelry to the value of $500.

The jewelry store of J. A. Pibulx, 1016 Ontario St. E., Montreal, was robbed early one morning recently by thieves who smashed the window and obtained jewelry valued at about $100.

News has been received in Toronto of the death, in Dresden, Germany, of Henry Nerlich, Sen., formerly an extensive importer of fancy goods, in Toronto. He was of advanced years and had been resident in Dresden for some years and the present firm of Nerlich & Co. are carried on by his three sons.

The store of David Weiner, Cornwall, Ont., was entered by burglars on the night of Tuesday, Sept. 12, through a rear door by breaking a pane of glass. About $200 worth of watches and jewelry were stolen. Mr. Weiner was burned out only two months ago.

HOPMAN VAN DEN BERG SONS, Ltd.

Montreal


Justice Dunlop, Montreal, has issued an order for the winding up of the firm of Hopman Van Den Berg Sons, Ltd., diamond dealers, which was incorporated in 1910 with a capitalization of $600,000. The order was made on the application of J. W. G. Hopman Van Den Berg, who claimed that the company was indebted to him for a large amount. N. A. Willis was appointed provisional liquidator.
