A daring jewellery robbery was committed in Stockport on Monday night at the premises of Mr Jacob Ginter. The thieves forced an entrance into the shop, and decamped with about £1,000 worth of jewellery, chiefly from trays in the window. No trace of the burglars has yet been discovered.

ELIJAH SWAILES

Wigan

ROBBERY OF JEWELLERY AT WIGAN

It was discovered on Saturday morning that the premises of Mr. Elijah Swailes, watchmaker and jeweller, of Wigan, had been entered during the previous night, and articles valued at £850 carried off. A small jemmy, a file, and a dark lantern were found on the premises, from which egress had been obtained by taking out the fan-light over the door.

JOHN HOWARD

Manchester

TRIAL OF A MANCHESTER TRADESMAN

Mr. John Howard, silversmith, of Manchester, charged with having purchased stolen silver, was tried at Chester, on Friday, and acquitted. He had purchased one parcel of old silver, for which he gave the usual price. The witnesses relied on by the police of Stockport, who took great pains in getting up a case against Mr. Howard, were a couple of convicted felons, who told most improbable stories, and evidently perjured themselves.

JACOB SANDEMAN

Liverpool

In the matter of Jacob Sandeman, who has just made the big jewellery smash in Liverpool, we should like to know who is to blame the most, the debtor or the creditors. Sandeman commenced business about seven months ago, and he had hardly opened when the Brummagem men commenced to pile the goods on to him, notwithstanding that they knew what sort of gentleman he was. He now comes before them with liabilities £5,435, and assets on paper £728, or, in other words, a deficiency of £4,706.
