JEWEL PEN Co. Ltd.

102, Fenchurch Street, London

JEWEL PEN COMPANY, LIMITED, (with which is Incorporated G. Shand, Limited),
102, FENCHURCH STREET, LONDON, B.C.

Image

The universal use of the fountain pen and its widely acknowledged value in commercial, professional, and private life, constitute a high tribute to the continuous energy of those who have had a prominent part in its introduction to the business world. Widely known in this connection is the Jewel Pen Company, Limited, who control a large factory at Dalston, Birmingham, and whose business, now reaching to almost every quarter of the globe, was founded in 1884 by Mr.. John Thomas Calton. The same spirited activity of development which marked the earlier years of the business, is well sustained by the present administration. The founder, Mr. John T. Calton, is chairman of the executive, and his co-directors (since the incorporation of the company in 1913) have been Mr. W. T. K. Calton and Mr. Louis Perry, who was for over twenty years with the well-known firm of Messrs. Perry & Co., Ltd., London and Birmingham. Recently, the Jewel Pen Company, Limited, has acquired the business of Messrs. George Shand, Limited, which will henceforward be carried on under the former company's name. Pursuant to this amalgamation, Mr. George Shand has joined the board, and will take an active part in the conduct of the business, in conjunction with the chairman and other directors above named. The company issued what is, perhaps, the most comprehensive catalogue of fountain and stylographic pens ever published — evidencing the directness and attractiveness with which the " Jewel Pen " specialties are brought to the notice of the trade, and the immense range of production now covered by this industry. Customers at a distance will find the catalogue a splendid medium for making their selections ; whilst those who have an opportunity of visiting the show-rooms at 12, Paternoster Row, London, EC., will realise at first-hand the completeness with which the work of modem fountain pen making has been entered upon. Long test and daily use have proved the care bestowed by the company upon the study of those niceties of fitting and adjustment whereon alone writers can depend for steady and even flow. There is no detail, however small, which is considered too unimportant to look after. The Jewel Safety pens may be specially mentioned. They can be carried in any position, and are, moreover, always ready for use. Pens of this company's make write as smoothly as a lead pencil. The matching of the nibs for any particular work is a source of much convenience ; and pens are made to suit customers' requirements, from the Half-guinea Sterling Hall-marked Silver article, to the large size mounted special at £1 ; and from the " Marvel " series (so called because of its remarkable value at a low price), to the gold-mounted presentation pen in case, ranging as high as from two to five guineas. Amongst the latest ideas is " The Caddie " Gold Nib, iridium tipped — a unique present at five shillings. The company's own gold pens are of 14 carat gold, are finished to last a lifetime, and can be adjusted to any of their holders. Particular attention is drawn to the popularly priced five shilling " Jewel " pen, which has reached, it is believed, the acme of perfection, being made to stand every conceivable test to which a pen can be submitted. To the trade, the company offer special opportunities for promoting the sale of their manufactures by means of attractive show-cards, and the loan of counter show-cases, as well as of booklets and circulars showing selections of their pens. Whilst such features of display go far to stimulate public interest in the Jewel fountain pens, their merits are self-recommendatory ; and there seems to be every justification for the statement that there are " no pens to beat them at any price." It should be added that the company make and supply pockets, clips, and protectors ; inks, and sealing wax. Their manufacturing facilities for all kinds of sealing wax are up-to-date ; and they make for the trade letter and parcel wax, druggists' wax, bottling wax, bag wax, and engraver's wax. The award of a gold medal and numerous testimonials from all parts of the world tend to confirm the appreciation elicited for all this company's productions in the leading markets at home and abroad. Telephone : 6107 Central. Telegrams: "Calstylo, London".
