Wm. B. Kerr was presented with an elegant pocket-book on the occasion of his retirement from the presidency of the Newark Camera Club, a position he has held for the past two years. A very handsome hand-painted card expressing the club’s appreciation of his services, and wishing him a bon voyage on his trip to Europe, was attached to the inside of the pocket-book.

Wm. B. Kerr, of Wm. B. Kerr & Co., was erroneously mentioned last week as the recipient of an elegant pocket-book from the Newark Camera Club, upon his retirement from the presidency of that organization. It was his partner, P. L. V. Thiery who received the gift, and who is about to sail for Europe.

Judge Adams, sitting in the Supreme Court, Circuit, granted a non-suit, last week, in the action brought by Albert Meurer against the William B. Kerr Co. Mr. Meurer is a gold worker by trade and was employed by the Kerr concern. About a year ago he was chiseling a piece of hard alloy when a chip flew and lodged in his right eye, destroying the sight. He sued for the sum of $15,000 damages. The defense contended that he assumed certain risks when he took the job and that the employer was in no way responsible. This contention was sustained by the court.

A man has been visiting a number of the jewelry establishments in Newark, representing himself as Mr. Oskamp, of Oskamp, Nolting & Co., Cincinnati, and selecting goods for that firm. Among those he visited were W. B. Kerr & Co. and David C. Dodd, Jr. The former at once telegraphed to Cincinnati for information and ascertained that no representative of the firm was in the East at that time. So far as ascertained no losses have yet been made.

Two articles which are certain to be among the most salable and popular of the silver novelties of this season have been introduced by Wm. B. Kerr & Co., 860 Broadway, New York. These are the sterling silver hem gauge and match box illustrated on this page. It needs no prophet to foretell that the former will prove a most salable article among the jewelers’ feminine patrons, while the success of the latter is assured by the sale of its predecessors, the “ Psyche and Love” and “Nymphs and Satyr” boxes introduced by this firm last year. The design in this, like those of the other two, is from a masterpiece oi Bougereau, known as the “ Birth of Venus.’’ Unlike the former boxes this is introduced only in oxidized silver, a finish which heightens the rich effect of the design.
