Bailey, Banks & Biddle, who change the appearance of their vast establishment at I2th and Chestnut Sts. each season, have made the customary preparation for the summer months. The interior of the store, which has been decorated and furnished with heavy drapery, has been subjected to a decided change, the heavy goods giving way to material of less weight and of a decidedly cooler appearance.

The Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co. is making what is reported to be the first exhibition of bone china made in this country. Several hundred pieces are on view, which are regarded as equal, not better, than the bone china manufactured in England, which country has long been given the highest place in the industry. Some fine pieces of Belleek china are included in the exhibit, as well as silver deposits ware, the silver decorations being put on by an electrical process, after which the engraving is done.

A magnificent loving cup, the production of Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co., has been presented to J. B. Hutchinson, general manager of the Pennsylvania Railroad, on the occasion of his marriage, last week. The cup stands about 15 inches in height and is about 10 inches in diameter across the top. There are three rustic handles and the decorations are grapes with festoons of flowers and Autumn leaves. Between the handles are blank panels, in one of which is the simple inscription, “From the Freight Department.” Beneath this inscription are the names of the department heads in facsimiles of the signatures of the donors.

Eugene Zieber Succeeds In Ending His Life

Philadelphia, Pa., June 5.—Eugene Zieber, head of the stationery department of Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co., attempted to commit suicide to-day by cutting his throat with a razor, in the firm's factory at 12th and Sansom Sts. He is now at the Jefferson Hospital, and it is feared that he will die.

About two mouths ago while on his way to his residence at Wayne, Mr. Zieber in passing from one car to another fell off the train at Overbrook, and was very seriously injured. He underwent a course of treatment at the Presbyterian Hospital, and recently it was thought he was properly cured. He returned to his duties Tuesday last, and appeared to be as usual until Saturday. About 11 o'clock in the forenoon he was summoned by 'phone to the store rooms. He immediately went into his private office, and not emerging again Frederick Lucking. the chief designer of the department, went to see what was the matter. Mr. Zieber was lying on the floor, with a frightful gash in his throat from which the blood was gushing. He had a razor in his hand. Police assistance was obtained and the man was hurried to the hospital; while there he recovered consciousness and tried his best to tear apart the wound that was being sewn. Weakness from loss of blood finally caused him to desist.

Mr. Zieber had been with Bailey, Banks & Biddle for about 20 years, and received a handsome salary. He was considered one of the best authorities on heraldry in the country, and was specially proficient in his business. He is 39 years of age, is married and has one child. It is supposed that his brain was in some way injured by his recent accident.

Since Herman Pedrick is no longer associated with Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co., Inc.. he is devoting a great deal more time to the Philadelphia School of Engraving of which he has been president for many years. Most dramatic result of his renewed efforts to date has been the delightful and well attended open house on June 13th at 1624 Arch St., the new location of the school which formerly occupied quarters at 2026 N. Broad St.

Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co., Inc., are using direct mail ads in full color. "Women are accustomed to color all about them and they react to it," said a spokesman for the store. "A black and white ad may appeal to a man but to a woman it looks dull."
