Frederick Marson silversmith Birmingham
Frederick Marson located Spencer Street, Birmingham registered Jan 1845 maker of; box, card case, spectacle case, vesta, vinaigrette.
Silver presentation snuff box made by Frederick Marson maker's mark F M, year letter H for 1856. It has an inscription on the top that shows it was a presentation piece and would be freemason ; “PRESENTED TO J.B. GREGSON ppcs BY MEMBERS OF THE PRIDE OF REDDISH LODGE AS A TOKEN OF RESPECT, FOR HIS PAST SERVICES (ppcs could stand for; Primary Producers Co-operative Society ). The inside has a gold wash and the hallmarks on both parts. A solid 13 knuckle hinge. All sides are beautiful engraved so called bright cut. Measurements; 2.75”x 1,75”x 0,5” weight around 90 grams.
Herewith a larger silver snuff box of masonic intrest hallmarked for Birmingham 1875 by Frederick Marson. The box has a superb engraved decoration on all sides and a masonic predentation that reads; "Presented to Br. John Mc Kenzie of the Fingal Lodge of Free Masons. In Recognition of his long and Valuable Services as Secretary Dingwall 1878". Inside box are traces of gild.
Measurements.; 8 cm/ 3.25" x 5.3 cm/ 2". Weight 129 grams / 4.55 ounces
Maker's mark F.M, this particular mark was registered in Oct 1864. Both parts of the box are hallmarked and has twice the duty mark, the head of Victoria instead of lion passant in bottom part.
