Schmidt & Fox is the name of a new jewelry firm in Hartford. They are the successors to A. H. Schmidt. Mr. Schmidt was for a number of years with T. Steele & Son, one of the oldest and best known concerns in New England. Mr. Fox was for many years with Ernest Schall.

William A. Crosby learned the jewelry trade with Thomas Steele & Co., remaining with the firm around eight years from c.1860-1868, before leaving for Chicago.

T. Steele & Son, the well known jewelers of Hartford, who have been in business since 1836, being about to retire to engage in other business, offer their entire stock of goods, lease of premises and all their elegant fixtures at a bargain. Their store is located on one of the most prominent thoroughfares of Hartford, and is regarded as the best stand in that city.

Messrs. T. Steele & Son, an old jewelry firm of Hartford, Conn., closed out their business in the latter part of May.

The below notice may refer:

STEELE - At the residence of his Son-in-Law, Henry D. Atwater, No. 184 Joralemon-st., Brooklyn. April 10, Mary R., widow of Thomas Steele of Hartford, Conn., in the 89th year of her age. Funeral private. Internment at Hartford, Conn. Carriages will meet 12 pm. train from New York. Hartford papers please copy.
