CHARLES USHER

Humberstone Gate, Leicester

A JEWELLER'S SHOP LOOTED

A daring robbery was reported to the Leicester police on Sunday. A jeweller's shop in Humberstone Gate, occupied by Mr Charles Usher, was broken into and a large number of gold watches, chains, rings, and stones, valued at fully £1,000, was stolen. Mr Usher informed the police that he locked up his premises at half-past 10 on Sunday morning, and returning at noon found that an entry had been made through a skylight in the roof and the whole place ransacked The thieves got clear away leaving a jemmy behind them. The police as yet have no clue to the perpetrators of the robbery.

SAMUEL BURTON HASKARD

120, Friar Gate, Derby

BULL IN A JEWELLER'S SHOP

A curious scene was witnessed in the shop of a Derby jeweller named Haskard on Friday Two bullocks that were being driven to the market became restive, and rushed suddenly towards the shop, where one of them succeeded in effecting an entrance. In its efforts to back out it managed to shut the door on itself, and in its struggles to get free upset a tray containing thirty watches, knocked down five clocks, and finally forced its head through the window, scattering rings and small jewellery in all directions. The door was re-opened, and the animal was released, after doing damage to the value of £50.

J. BRITTON

Nottingham

The Nottingham police are investigating a daring jewel robbery, which took place on Sunday evening at the shop of Mr. J. Britton, watchmaker and jeweller. Mr. Britton left home about seven o'clock, and on returning was surprised to find a gold watch lying at his feet. On looking round his premises, he found that the windows at the back had been smashed and forced open, and gold watches and rings to the value of about £250 had been stolen.
