Venez découvrir vingt-huit tableaux, huit gravures et une gouache du règne de Louis XIV au Second Empire provenant des collections du château de Versailles.
Ces œuvres illustrent le goût des Grands pour la parure à travers les siècles, que ce soit sous la forme de colliers, bagues, pendants d’oreilles, mais aussi boucles de souliers ou de ceintures, médaillons ornés de brillants et de pierres, ou encore, pierres cousues sur des costumes.
Quelles fonctions pour ces différentes parures ? Cadeaux diplomatiques entre la France et les cours européennes, présents pour les étrennes des membres de la famille royale ou encore cadeaux de mariage.
Ces portraits des rois et reines sont un trésor pour découvrir les joyaux de la couronne et leurs usages.
Admirez la parure dans le portrait et interrogez-vous sur l’image que le modèle a voulu donner de lui-même, qui se présente alors dans ses plus beaux atours.
C’est aussi pour le peintre l’occasion de montrer son talent et sa virtuosité pour rendre l’éclat des pierreries, perles et diamants.
À travers cette exposition, vous pourrez saisir l’évolution des usages et des formes des bijoux soumis, comme le costume, à la mode et au goût du temps.
Come and discover twenty-eight paintings, eight engravings and a gouache from the reign of Louis XIV to the Second Empire from the collections of the Palace of Versailles.
These works illustrate the taste of the great for the adornment throughout the centuries, whether in the form of necklaces, rings, earrings, but also buckles of shoes or belts, medallions decorated with brilliants and stones, or , Stones sewn on costumes. What functions for these different adornments? Diplomatic gifts between France and the European courts, present for the gifts of the members of the royal family or even wedding gifts.
These portraits of kings and queens are a treasure to discover the jewels of the crown and their uses. Admire the adornment in the portrait and ask yourself about the image that the model wanted to give of itself, which then presents itself in its most beautiful attires.
It is also for the painter the opportunity to show his talent and his virtuosity to make the brilliance of jewels, pearls and diamonds.
Through this exhibition, you will be able to grasp the evolution of the uses and forms of jewels submitted, such as costume, fashion and the taste of time.
