Dagestan Jewelry Art
Until 19th February 2017
Dagestan jewelry art has always been notable for its distinctive character and high artistic quality. Works of local craftsmen were often valued by European travellers as highly as art works made by German, Italian and Russian jewelers of the Middle Ages.
Collection of art silver of the Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts named after P.S. Gamzatova numbers over 8000 items. Over half of them is women's jewelry, which was an essential part of the traditional costume, it had more than decorative meaning, it was also considered to be protective amulets.
These are rings, bracelets, earrings, plates, necklaces, monists, pendants, belts and belt buckles, fasteners, buttons made in various techniques such as casting, stamping, forging, granulation, filigree, engraving, blackening, oxidation, enamel. They were often decorated with precious and semi-precious stones, as well as glass inserts.
Opening hours: Tuesday - Sunday 10.00 – 18.00 - Closed Mondays
Admission: 200 RUB
