Mementos: Jewelry of Life and Love from Historic New England
Until 7th January 2018
Mementos features more than one hundred pieces of jewelry along with complementary textiles, portraits, and photographs from Historic New England’s extensive collections. Together, these objects unlock the lid of New England’s jewelry box. They tell tales of family history, industrial development, and artistic expression unique to the region.
Five thematic sections highlight jewelry’s unique role as a public display of personal history. The exhibition’s themes, Celebrate, Remember, Tour, Collect, and Create, feature wedding rings, souvenir cufflinks, jet earrings, opal brooches, and costume jewels that belonged to New England families from the eighteenth century to today. See a silver coin bracelet that is a wearable family tree, wedding jewelry that explores the various meanings of “I do,” tokens from travel abroad, jewelry that memorializes loved ones, and items that showcase New England’s role in the production of American costume jewelry.
Opening hours: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Admission: $15
