AOAMZ Moscow

Hi,
As you know,this mark is common on cigarette cases. In PL it`s attributed to "АОАМЗ" -Aкционерное Oбщество Aртелей Mосковских Золотых дел мастеров.
(Joint-stock company of Moscow goldsmiths’ artels).
There is question mark, though.
V. Skurlov quotes PL, and it`s not mentioned in Ivanov.




On the other hand, Russian collectors have discussed the mark and there are different opinions supported by the reference in Central Archives of Moscow:
In ``The Directory of joint-stock and trading companies active in The Empire``, number № 406 is listed ``Joint – stock metal refinery and rolling factory`` in Moscow, founded 1899. The composition of the Company 1) metal refinery and rolling, also the manufacture of gold and silver products in Moscow factory``
(В «Указателе действующих в империи акционерных предприятия и торговых домов» под № 406 значится «Акционерное общество аффинерного и металлопрокатного завода» в Москве. Действия открыты - 1899 г. Состав предприятия: 1) аффинерные и металлопрокатные, а кроме того для производства золотых и серебряных продуктов завод в г. Москве»).

So, the abbreviation may stand for "Акционерное Общество Аффинерного Метало-прокатного Завода``.

Мoreover,the last letter ``З`` for factory (``Завод``) is more logical than ``З`` for golden (``Золотых ``).

thank you very much for your interesting informations.
For years I have found objects of this company, which were of much better quality than the average and were almost always richly decorated - with gold in various colors or enamels. I suspected that these works could already be ordered on a factory basis - the design and precision stand out strongly from other objects in the same style, which are from other manufacturers and were designed by local artists. As I said - a purely personal guess ...

Hi,
Directory of commerce and industry in Moscow, both 1904 and 1910, mentions only "Акционерное Общество Аффинерного и Mеталлопрокатного Завода". The company attributed to ``АОАМЗ`` in PL cannot be found anywhere.
This is stock exchange share issued in 1899 when the company was founded. Its history can be traced to modern times.
