Who was the maker of this modern shot cup?

Post by SilverK »

Hi,

Could anybody advise who the maker was of this CCCP shot cup and confirm where, and approximately when, it was assayed? Given the hammer and sickle inside a 5-pointed star, this must have been assayed post May 1958 and with the atomic or space orbit pattern, I would hazard a guess that it was made either in the very late 50s or early 60s. The star is preceded by what looks to me like the number '3', but which I think is Ќ for Tallin, the assay city for this piece.

As always, any response is very welcome.

Regards,

silverk.

Hi SilverK,

See: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic ... 81&p=37617

and: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic ... 3&p=110010

I've no idea if it is 1961 or 1971, hopefully someone will explain how the year marking works.

Thanks for the links, Trev. I didn't realize the other mark was date-related. If this is 1971 and the engraving is space-related, then this wasn't a good year for the Soviet space programme (the crew was killed in Salyut 1), and it's rather close to America's success in 1969. 1961 was a rather better time!

All the best,

The Soviet year marking is at the same time complicated but as well simple when you understand the system. Try this thread where it is somehow explained 9 year ago:

I don't know why there are are strange characters here and there in the input.Anyway, the manufacturing year for your "rjumka" (vodka cup) is 1971

Come'on AG2012. You know very well the difference between Cyrillic З and Э for Tallinn (Estonia).

Gents,

Thanks QRT.s for the date. 1971 it is, then and Trev was right.

But I'm confused about the '3'. Is this for Tallin or Dagestan?

Hi all,

That's absolutely clear now, thanks. The examples set against the dates are particularly useful and clear. A superb way of presenting the information.
