1781 Soup Ladle, JC/JG

Post by Granmaa »

A c.1781 soup ladle with chasing on the back of the bowl and on the stem. The maker's mark seems to be JC or JG, and I think it's probably Scandinavian. Can anyone confirm?

I have searched Denmark - sorry no match.
The first letter is F or T - to the best of my knowledge. Most likely F

Regarding initials - søn son is very likely - son or søn depeding of country.
Germany is also a possibility. Northern germany.

Finland out of question, Sweden as well. Northern Germany is not a bad suggestion.

Hallo Granmaa,
northern Germany could be possible, like Hose_dk wrote, but your mark is unknown there. Furthermore I do not know such appearance of the handle in this region. In my opinion the ladle was made in (Southt ?) Denmark.

Kind regards,
Ringo

Hello Miles,

I am a little late, but I think my assumption concerning the origin was quite right. It is Frederik Janus Kreutzberg from Aarhus, Denmark.

Best regards, Ringo
