Which Swedish town is this spoon from?

Post by juantotree »

Hi

I would be grateful in help with identifying which town this Swedish tablespoon is from. I believe the date is 1881 and C Holm is obviously the maker, there is however an H.G stamp to the front of the terminal, would this be the owners initials or perhaps a retailers stamp?

Many Thanks
Martin

The spoon is made in Norrköping (Saint Olof) in 1857 (C5). The maker is Carl Olof Holm 1841-1883. HG is owner's initials. Typical for the era.

The pattern is called "Palmes Suedois". It is an old common European rococo pattern. Ironically its name in Swedish is "Gammalfransk" meaning "Old French".
