Silver Button

Post by badwolf »

Can anybody help me identifying the hallmark on this small silver button.
The first mark is a sun with face in the middle, then 925 then the letter K
There is also a makers initials of RF.

The button is only 15mm wide so apologies for not having a closer view of the actual hallmarks

Hope somebody can help me with this as i am finding it difficult to locate such a hallmark.

Hello Badwolf, These hallmarks are for legally imported silver in the UK. The sun is the mark for imports assayed in London, 925 is the silver title and letter k is for 1905. Being French, I make a wild guess that RF is for Republique Francaise and the lady looks like Lady Marianne who is the national emblem. Normally if it is french, you should find another hallmark which is very small and which by law has to be truck on the plate of the button or on the circular part below the button which allows the button to be sawn. This hallmark should be a boar head. Hope this helps. Best Regards. Myriam

Thank you so much Myriam for all your help. I will check later to see if there is a boars head mark somewhere in the button, its certainly not on the front or back but as you say it may be round the edges.

Thank you once again for your help.
