I think I may have read the date on this hallmark wrongly?

Post by sordoni »

I thought this was a London date code for 1961, but I have been told the item is brand new, so can someone please confirm that the code is for 2005? I need a new silver marks book, mine is out of date and doesn't have the latest marks.

Many thanks, Lynne
follow up: oops! I should have read the guidelines first, here is a picture of the actual item, which is a modern glass and silver matchholder. Thanks for any help.

Lower case sans-serif "f" in the octagon cartouche is the 2005 date mark, the 1961 mark is an italic "f" with serifs in the same shape cartouche, believe they started using the 925-in-oval on British-made pieces in 1999.

Thank you Cheryle, that is what I thought - after I bought it of course, which probably means I paid too much for it. Oh well.... it is pretty.
