Consensus on I*M hallmark?

Post by whitecross »

Hello!

I just got a 1770 London sterling tankard. The dealer believed the mark to be Jacob Marsh. The auction from where they acquired it identified it as either Marsh or John Moor (Grimwade 3658).

I personally think it's John Muns (Grimwade 1518) based on a previous discussion on this board: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6238

The date of 1770 for this tankard seems to fit well with Muns.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

I don't think it is John Muns, as I believe he died in 1768.

Excellent! Thanks. Anything that can help pare down the possibilities is greatly appreciated!

John Muns was definitely dead by 22 March 1768 when his will was proved at PCC .
