Hi there, I bought this bowl recently at auction where it was described as Indian- when I got it home I noticed the English hallmarks on the base which I believe are for George Fox. Are these genuine marks - as to me ,the maker and the style don’t match?
Any information much appreciated- thank you!

This is a genuine London hallmark for 1860 with the maker's mark of George Fox. The decoration is not atypical of the florid style in fashion in the mid-Victorian period.

Without being able to see all the images, I would hazard a guess this is a zodiac bowl featuring stylised images of the 12 signs of the zodiac. Does the bowl have 12 images around the circumference?

Martin and Phil, thank you both for your responses . I did think it was a strange style for an English bowl...
Martin, I think you're right - there are indeed 12 images but I can only make out a few of them. As you say, the images are quite stylised and will have to study them a little closer to make them out!
Thank you both once again,
Jo.

Some are clearly zodiac signs , others not so obvious !
