Help identifying Birmingham UK makers mark

Post by James1985 »

Good Day,

I am looking for some assistance in identifying the makers mark on a silver cigarette case that I inherited from my grandfather.

As shown in the attached images, the hallmark reads as:

Makers Mark: I.G Ltd (As I can make it out)

Assay Office: Birmingham (Anchor)

Fineness Mark: Sterling Silver (Lion)

Date: K (1934-1935)

I have tried searching multiple different sources online recently but have been unable to trace any record of this makers mark.

Any assistance here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

James

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

You seem to be having trouble with your images. The following should help you:

How to Add Images

Posting Requirements

Embedded images get a far greater response than just posting links or thumbnails.

Remember to use the 'Preview' button before submitting your post - if your images don't show up there we won't be able to see them either.

No images are showing as you have posted a link to the page where the pictures are located rather than to the pictures themselves. To use the Img tag the link should be to the picture - something ending in, for example, ".jpg". Here are your pictures:

The hallmark is, as you rightly say, Birmingham 1934/35. The partially obscured makers mark is in fact J.G Ltd for Joseph Gloster Ltd. See http://www.925-1000.com/dlBirmingham4.html#M.
