Hi Members
I have this very decorative pair of boxed spoons ,I would like to know if they were made for any special purpose. They were made by Levi Salaman in 1901.

Hi Guido,

The crest on the spoons is that of King Edward VII. Your serving spoons were made in 1901(as you pointed out) which is the year his mother, Queen Victoria died, and he ascended the throne.

I believe they were made as commemorate items of this royal event and would have been sold to both tourists and the home market.

Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve
Many thanks for your reply.what you say makes sense .Although am not sure about the tourist thing ,(maybe a rich tourist)I am not sure how much sterling silver spoons of this quality would have cost in 1901,and how many were made in total.I would have thought the ones made in epns may have been for the tourist market.

Kind Regards Guido.
