Question aboutahallmark on an old snuff box

Post by Gregory »

Hello
I am writing in hopes that someone may know what these hallmarks are.
They are on an old silver snuff box that I found at an estate sale.
I have looked over this site and have not been able to find any simular marks.
If anyone can help it would be very helpful as I have been wondering about the boxe's age and where it came from.

Hi Gregory,

The mark in http://www.pbase.com/gregorysullivan/image/59684368" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is the townmark of Schoonhoven (4 lions .. one in each quadrant). I'll blow up the other marks later and see if I can recognise them.

Hi,

Sorry but I couldn't work out the other marks.
I think they are pill/sniff boxes from the late 18th century (1775-1800).

Made in Schoonhoven. The one in the middle is a C or a G (1796 or 1800) and the left one is the makers mark for Andries Graves Kooiman (1777-1808)
