Hammered Silver Bowl

Post by TropicD »

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum, but have really been enjoying researching the various marks on a rather beautiful hammered silver bowl I bought recently.

Here is the link to the photos:

I wonder if the experts could tell me a few things.

1) Are my interpretations of the marks correct. (See my notes on the photos in the linked album.)
2) Do you know anything about the "SVO & Zn" mark? I haven't been able to find anything.
3) Any thoughts on style? Would you describe this as an Arts and Crafts piece?

(admin edit - see Posting Requirements )

Many thanks in advance.

Hi welcome to the forum.

The maker’s mark B under two* is for; C.L.J. Begeer, registered in Utrecht 1904-1951, the bowl looks hand hammered in de Arts & Crafts style, date letter O for 1924.
S.v.O &Zn could be the retailer’s mark for: S. van Osenbrugge & Zoon N.V., registered with an importer's mark in Amsterdam 1924-/1953
For more information about Begeer see:
