Good afternoon,
I purchased this miniature press last week and know it is Dutch
It is the old sword mark which was used between 1814 and 1905
However I can not find any info on two marks on this item
IO or 10 and the Amsterdam city mark
Is this Amsterdam city mark a date mark or makers mark and is it 10 or IO and what is it for as I can not find any makers marks in the responsibility marks book
Kind regards
Dirk
Can't find info on marks
Re: Can't find info on marks
Hi Dirk, welcome to the forum.
The miniature shows two pseudo/fake marks or fantasy marks; pseudo mark city of Amsterdam and the number 10, a pseudo standard mark. Pseudo marks are often found on miniatures-toy silver and made late 19th-early 20th century. Today miniatures are still made with and without fantasy marks.
These fantasy marks are put on to pretend, to look like 18th century silver marks and could fool an ignorant buyer.
Oel.

Re: Can't find info on marks
Hi Oel,
Apologies for the late reply.
Many thanks for the info.
I was hoping that the Amsterdam city mark was something more then a pseudo mark :)
Still we are happy with it.
