Box with Repairs?

Post by moonshine »

Hello All. Could anyone identify the Maker's Mark on this box. Looks to me like 77 over YB or WB. Date letter I believe is 1839.
Also, it seems to have a lot of Repairs, or I'm wondering if the handle and feet are not original at all, but added later. Any thoughts appreciated.
It measures 5 inches by 3 inches. Thanks.

Hi Moonshine,

Silver tobacco box, at a later stage converted into a spoon-box, hence the dents, the alterations & adding; handle, legs and locking device.
Maker's mark indeed 77 over YB for; Ype Bruinings, registered in the city of Joure from 1828-1849. Year letter E for 1839

Oel.
