Apostle spoon plate or silver?

Post by Adrian Webber »

Hi All,

I am at a complete loss with this one! It appears to be Madonna and child, so not strictly a apostle spoon.
I believe it is Dutch in Origin (although I stand to be corrected) I have absolutely no idea where to start with the marks on the bowl!

Any help with maker/ origin/material and date, or a nudge in the right direction, would be much appreciated.

Thanks all

Hi Adrian,

I believe it to be made out of silver with pseudo/fake marks for 18 the century Amsterdam guild silver (hall)marks. The silver spoon is not particular old perhaps end 19th -early 20 century or even later.
For comparison a 18th century spoon with proper marks. Town mark of Amsterdam being tree st Andrews crosses (Andreas) under a crown.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your prompt response.
I had my suspicions that they were pseudo marks, they just appeared a little different to the various pseudo marks that I had come across!
