Even with crisp hallmarks I'm still unable to ascertain the exact origins of this spoon. I bought it recently and it was advertised as an Edinburgh spoon date letter for 1814. However my research makes me believe this is an Exeter spoon of which I am unable to date or find a probable maker. There seems to be alot of WW makers in both Edinburgh and Exeter but the one thing that is confusing me most is that the bust looks like a woman's bust and not a man's. If this is so is the spoon an early one? I could be very mistaken in my reseaerch so please forgive this. Any views on the spoon would be very welcome.

Definitely Exeter with the date letter i for 1825. WW may be William Welch although I haven't seen his mark with the letters so close together before.

Thankyou so much for that Phil. Yes the closeness of the two W's were also confusing me. I can now ( almost immediately! ) lay my bafflements to rest. All good stuff!
