Silver spoons - maker mark A.I and W.A.B.

Post by sourier »

I have four small spoons and would much appreciate help with identifying the year and the maker. I have searched (I have had them for quite a few years) but have not been able to find too much. I also cannot be sure of the year from the marks that I have seen. Thank you for any help. Imageand another photo with the mark Image

Thank you very much.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

The year would be 1938. The maker is unknown to me.

Thank you for your reply, and for helping me with the year. Evidently the first mark is A.J. over W.A.B., but this brings me no nearer who the silversmith was. Again, thank you for your help with the year. Much appreciated.

Without any real evidence beyond the coincidence of initials may I suggest Jackson & Bellamy Ltd, electroplaters, of 245 Rockingham Street, Sheffield. The 1939 Sheffield telephone directory has a W A Bellamy living in Barnsley, 16 miles away. Probably just a coincidence, but who knows?
