J.W mark on teaspoon

Post by SilverK »

I'm hoping that someone can help me identify the maker of this teaspoon, and if not the maker, just the town.

Unfortunately, not all of the marks are clear, but they seem to show J.W + a tree? + S + another mark I can't identify with a curly left hand leg (the best description I can manage!). The tree style mark would suggest to me that it's from Greenock, but I have little experience with Scottish silver, so it's probably something else entirely and from a completely different town....

I'm grateful for any suggestions.

Hi,
I think this is James Wright of Perth 1790-1810
This mark can be found in Richard Turners new directory of Scottish marks book, page 85
If you have not got his book try www.silvercollection.it under the Perth section you will find this mark.

That's exactly the right set of marks! Many thanks indeed Bob.
