John Nicholson makers mark?

Post by jmaps23 »

Hi , i have this small toddy ladle with some interesting marks, the makers mark appears to be of John Nicholson of cork but its also stamped with Edinburgh marks. Can anyone suggest a different maker or if Nicholson had a history of silver in Scotland. Appreciate any info , thanks James

Hi James,
This would probably be a Scottish silversmith, I see silvermakersmarks has it as unidentified Edinburgh.

I don't think there is any evidence of John Nicholson heading over that way.

Cheers,
Ben

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the reply , I do agree this is most likely an Edinburgh maker, on closer inspection this differs from Nicholson mark and the date letter would place this after or around his death. Hopefully i can put a name to the mark eventually. Thanks again for your replay . Regards James
