Scottish Provincial Sugar Tongs - Alexander Stewart (Inverness and Tain)

Post by bstaunto »

Hi team,

Can I get confirmation that these are by Alexander Stewart? There is a set of marks on each arm (same marks).

I'm assuming from the style of tongs that they are from his time in Inverness (rather than Tain), but are his marks from each town identifiable?

Hi Ben,

Yes, definitely Alexander Stewart, but without a 'TAIN' or 'INS' mark, I don't think you can identify the origin. The 'C' mark is to be found accompanying both the Tain and Inverness marks.
