N H - Teaspoons- Grimwade Unregistered Mark 3744

Post by Granmaa »

An NH script mark recorded in the Unregistered Marks section of Grimwade (3744). Grimwade suggests Nathaniel Horwood, though I've seen it attributed to Nicholas Hearnden as well.

Can you attribute date ( and reason for that date , even if only by style ! ) and type of spoon please .

Grimwade gives 1763/1764 for his example of the mark. But in the addenda to marks Grimwade (page 754 of 3rd Ed of 1990) states that his previous attribution to Horwood " should now be disregarded" and plumps for Hearden . See page 753 ibid .

Very useful image
Thanks

Thanks Tom, I was looking for that post.
So is it Hearnden or Hearden?

A clearer mark attributed to Nicholas Hearnden from a 1758 table spoon.
