Original Watch Boxes-Waltham (pre-1957 U.S.)

Post by Traintime »

If I believed the lack of information on the net, then I'd have to conclude this is the only known sample of this box left on the planet!!..but what's in your barn? This box appears to be from the original company sometime after re-naming to Waltham Watch Company. I suspect an insert with tabs, possibly for wrist watch, is missing due to the two holes at the base....but not ruling out pocket watches yet. (It can't be military issue, but perhaps sold as a civilian item or bought to send to a soldier.) The slogan "The All American Watch" does not seem to turn up in on-line advertising materials or other vintage boxes. Of course, no mention of number of jewels or movements. Anyone got an idea of what it matches or were these general stock boxes for jewelers or watchmakers to re-package Waltham movements in their own cases? 4 1/2" W x 4" Depth x 1 3/4" H:

One thing I see here..the established date reads "Since 1850", not the 1857 date on other boxes.
