new boy

Post by david dix »

hi there all. new to all this - so please bear with me! a moderator on this site suggested that my query to him would be best served by joining this forum and posting my question about French silver to all you experts. so here goes - I think I have in item of pre revolutionary French silver, a large ladle, that's intriguing me. basic details = French Silver fiddle pattern Soup ladle.18th Century (c. 1770) - Louis XVI, 292 grams. 'bottom' marked with 18thC French hall marks (pinched) and a fine - presumably traceable - coat of arms to the 'top'. the arms are to the rear of the ladle as it rests bowl up, which i take to mean it should be presented bowel down with the cartouche on display, which I understand to be the fashion in france. c. 1770. any thoughts anyone ??
