Is this a spoon from Strassbourg, late 1700?

Post by Joerg »

Hi
I got this spoon and tried to identify. I found a good match using Tardy for Strassbourg, France, for the period around 1780-1790. The crowned "13" as city mark could be a fit. The worn crowned mark can be an E or an F, but can also be something else. Maker mark reads LETZ. The spoon has a (crude) engraving, reading:
1816 M.J.G. Gotten Frau M.A.L.
which is German and translates as 1816 M.J.G godmother madam M.A.L.
My interpretation is MJG received this spoon as a present from her/his godmother MAL in 1816. I think it is realistic, giving a 20-30 year old spoon as a present to a godchild.
What can you tell me on the spoon?
Thank you, Jörg

Hi Theo
Thank you very much for your support. So the spoon is from the 1780ies and was already aged when given as a present.
Regards, Jörg
