Please help me identify the french silversmith of the salts

Post by elcid51 »

Hello I ask everyone's help to give a name to the silversmith in a French province (93?) in 1809/1819 has made the pair of salt cellars of which I enclose the following photographs. Thank you and happy New Year, Guido

Sorry I cannot help with the maker but I believe that these are Cruet holders and not salt cellars. Most likely would have held two glass bottles for holding oils and vinegar. Might be fun to try and find matching replacements

Good evening legrandmogol,
from the dimensions (LXPXH) 18x8x21 cm with a support depth of only 3 cm of the container see photograph I still think that it is a pair of double salts. In any case the problem of the crystals remains.
Thanks anyway, greetings,
Guido

The style seems to me to be consistent with a cruet set :: Here was one which I found, note the similarities ::::

Still I am not sure of the maker of the French item :

During this period, departement 93 was Seine-et-Marne; its assay office was in the city of Melun. Unfortunately, I do not know of a reference which covers Empire era makers of the region.

Hope this helps!
