EVANS, Evan (Grimwade p.358)

Post by MCB »

Goldworkers List (Section VII).

He married Christiana Armstrong at St Pancras Parish Church in 1807; both were from that parish. Christiana could only make her mark.
A daughter was christened in 1809 at Christ Church and St Leonard, Foster Lane.
A further 7 christening records of their children have been traced at the same church in the period 1817-26. The father’s address as a jeweller is recorded in each as Aldersgate Street.
He registered a maker’s mark as a goldworker at 102 Aldersgate in 1823 and from 101 Houndsditch in 1835.
A further christening record for a son at the same church in 1836 shows the father’s address as a jeweller at Houndsditch.
The UK Census for 1841 incorrectly records his name as Edward Evans a jeweller at Marshall Street, Golden Square.
His wife Christiana appears as a widow on the 1851 UK Census. There is an entry for an Evan Evans which may be relevant recorded in the London Deaths & Burials Index in 1845 for the St Luke, Finsbury register giving an age at death as 59 years and a last address at Bell Alley.
