He was christened the son of Samuel and Frances Townsend at St George, Bloomsbury in 1794.
Indentures were signed in 1808 as the son of Samuel, Merchant Taylor and jeweller of Gough Square, to be his father’s apprentice. He was free in 1820.
He married Catherine Hookham at St Dunstan in the West in 1817; both were from that parish.
The christening of their son Samuel James was recorded at St George, Bloomsbury in 1818. Their address was Thorney Street, Bloomsbury and his father was a jeweller.
Indentures were signed in 1820 for William, son of Joshua Taylor, a porter from Jewin Street, to be his apprentice.
He entered a mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1822 as a gold worker from 2 Castle Street, Falcon Square.
The death of a Samuel James Townsend registered in Marylebone in 1841 may be relevant.
